How to Care for Your Express Full Body Spray Tan: First 24 Hours

Express Full Body Spray Tan: 30 minutes | $75
One thing I hear a lot is, “My tan always lasts, ” and that’s not luck. The single most important rule after an express spray tan is simple: don’t get it wet during your development window. For most express formulas that’s commonly 4 to 8 hours, but I’ll always tell you the exact timing for your airbrush spray tan so you’re not guessing. Keep your skin dry, stay cool, and you’ll protect that even, natural color you came in for here in Pacifica.
Your express spray tan starts setting the second you leave, so treat the next 24–48 hours like protected time
Right after your Express Full Body Spray Tan, I want you thinking about friction, water, and heat. Those three things cause most of the “why is it patchy?” stress. The goal is to let your airbrush tan develop evenly, then lock it in with the right rinse and moisture.
Quick rule of thumb: During development, skip showers, hand-washing splash zones, sweaty workouts, and anything that makes you feel “damp.” In our cool, foggy Pacifica weather, your tan can take a little longer to feel fully dry, so give yourself a few extra minutes before you get dressed and head out.
The ride home matters more than people think
Wear loose, dark clothing home. Think soft joggers, an oversized tee, and slides. Tight waistbands, sports bras, socks, and any strap that digs in can leave lines while your spray tan is developing. And skip jewelry for the first night if it rubs, especially watches and snug bracelets.
Your first rinse should be gentle and fast
When it’s time to rinse, keep it simple. Use lukewarm water and a gentle, sulfate-free body wash if you need it. Don’t scrub. Don’t exfoliate. You may see bronzer rinse off, that’s normal. Pat dry with a towel, then get into clean, loose clothes. If you’ve got a surf session at Linda Mar Beach or a hike planned at Mori Point, schedule it after your development window and after that first rinse so sweat and saltwater don’t hit your tan mid-develop.
Days 2–7: the habits that keep your spray tan even, not crusty or blotchy
This is where “my tan always lasts” usually comes from. I’ve had clients tell me their color held strong for a good 10 days, even heading into busy event weeks, because they kept their routine simple and consistent.
Moisturize daily, but be picky about what you use
Dry skin fades faster and it fades unevenly. Start moisturizing after your first rinse, then do it every day. If you’re prone to extra dry patches, keep an eye on ankles, knees, elbows, hands, and calves. A client once flagged that her calves didn’t take as deeply, and after we adjusted with extra attention, her photos looked amazing. The same logic applies at home: those areas usually need more moisture to fade evenly.
Avoid heat and chlorine for the first 24–48 hours when you can
Hot showers, saunas, long steamy baths, and chlorinated pools can push your tan to fade early. If you’re golfing at Sharp Park or doing something active, cool down quickly after, rinse when it’s appropriate, and moisturize. Ocean water can dry you out too, so if you’re in and out at Linda Mar, rinse with fresh water after your session and get moisturizer on once your skin is fully dry.
Small fix if you notice a spot: Don’t panic-scrub. If you see a little streaking, try blotting with a damp cloth and a tiny amount of gentle body wash, then moisturize. Most of the time, aggressive scrubbing makes it worse.
Products that actually protect an airbrush tan (and the ones that quietly fade it)
You don’t need a complicated shelf to keep an airbrush spray tan looking good. You need the right basics, used consistently. I’m big on gentle cleansers and daily moisture, especially for anyone with very fair skin, sensitive skin, or dryness. I’ve even had a client come in with a sunburn and focus on calming hydration, and her skin settled down fast without the peeling she normally gets.
Body wash
Go for gentle and sulfate-free. Skip harsh scrubs and anything that leaves your skin squeaky. That “super clean” feeling usually means you stripped your skin, which makes your tan fade unevenly.
Moisturizer
Stick with oil-free, fragrance-free when possible. A lot of clients love my body butter because it keeps skin feeling noticeably softer and helps the tan wear off evenly, not in random patches.
What to avoid for 5–7 days
Exfoliating mitts, salt scrubs, retinol body products, and long soaks. If you want your spray tan to last through a trip or an event week, these are the usual culprits behind “it disappeared overnight.”
If you want the best timing for an event, I break it down in how long an Express Full Body Spray Tan lasts. And if you’re debating formula choice, Express Full Body Spray Tan vs. regular is a good quick read.
If something feels off, text me. I’d rather fix it early than let you stress
I keep my aftercare advice practical, and I’m easy to reach. People often tell me booking is simple, the space feels private, and they like that I check in after a custom color to make sure it developed the way they wanted. That same support applies after your appointment too, especially if you’re commuting in from Daly City, San Bruno, or Brisbane and you’re trying to fit your rinse timing into real life.

A little dryness on hands or feet can be normal. A random drip line, a spot that grabbed darker, or a question about your rinse timing is something I can usually talk you through quickly. If you’re brand new to this, what to expect from your first Express Full Body Spray Tan will calm a lot of nerves.
Want your glow to look natural, not orange? Tell me your event date, what you’ll be wearing, and how soon you need to rinse. I’ll guide you to the right shade and the right timing so your spray tan develops evenly.
A quick note for Pacifica fog days and Linda Mar routines
Pacifica’s coastal dampness is real. If you’re coming from a surf session at Linda Mar Beach, plan your tan for after, not before. If it’s a foggy day and you know you’ll be bundled up, give yourself time to fully dry before you dress. And if you’re trying to squeeze in an appointment between work and home, aim for a calmer window so you’re not rushing your development time.
