New Membership Clients: Spray Tan Aftercare (Unlimited Membership)

Linda Mar (south Pacifica near the Linda Mar / Crespi Drive area) | Membership appointments are about 30 minutes
One thing I hear a lot is that the unlimited spray tan membership is “awesome” because it’s easy to keep your color fresh. That only works if you protect your tan right after you leave. The biggest rule is simple: wait 8 to 12 hours before you shower, and keep your skin dry while your color develops. In Pacifica, the fog and cool, maritime air can keep clothes and skin a little damp, so I’m extra picky about quick-dry habits in those first hours.
The first 24 to 48 hours: the do’s and don’ts that keep your color even
Right after your membership tan, your goal is to let the color set without friction, sweat, or water. I give you practical aftercare before you walk out, and I’ll usually ask what you have planned that day so I can help you avoid the common mistakes that cause patchiness.
Quick rules for the first 8 to 12 hours: No showering, no swimming, and no intense workouts. Keep your skin dry and avoid anything that rubs.
What to wear and why it matters
Wear loose, dark, non-stick clothing. Tight leggings, bras with lots of seams, and skinny jeans are the fastest way to rub color off in lines. Slip-on shoes help too, since bending and pulling on socks can create extra friction around ankles.
Your first rinse: keep it simple
When it’s time to shower, do a gentle rinse first. You’ll often see bronzer rinse away, and that’s normal. Keep the water lukewarm, skip scrubbing, and don’t use a loofah that first shower. Pat dry, don’t rub.
- Avoid steam rooms and hot baths the first day.
- If you sweat, blot gently with a clean towel. Don’t wipe.
- Try not to sleep twisted up in tight sheets or heavy blankets that drag on the skin.
Your first week in Pacifica: fog, beach days, and the stuff that makes tans fade early
If you want that even, natural-looking color that doesn’t scream “spray tan, ” the first week is where you win. People tell me they love how even their tan is, including on hands, and the habits below are a big reason that happens.
Sweat and surf: what I recommend for membership clients
I’d hold off on heavy sweating for at least 12 hours. After that, workouts are fine, but rinse off sweat sooner rather than later. If you’re part of the Linda Mar Beach surf crowd, plan your timing so you’re not pulling on a wetsuit right after your appointment. Neoprene plus friction is tough on fresh color.
Wetsuit tip: If you know you’re surfing, I usually suggest booking after your surf session, not before. Less friction, less saltwater, less fading.
Don’t exfoliate too soon
Skip scrubs, loofahs, and deep-cleansing body treatments for at least 5 to 7 days. That includes anything that “polishes” the skin. You’ll fade faster, and you’ll usually fade unevenly.
Small habits that quietly wreck a tan
- Long hot showers every day
- Shaving aggressively or using dull razors (think ankles and knees)
- Picking at dry patches instead of moisturizing them
- Oil-heavy body products between appointments
Spray tan maintenance that actually works between unlimited membership sessions
If you want your unlimited membership to feel like a constant glow, daily moisturizing is the main habit. I like a lightweight, fragrance-free, oil-free lotion that absorbs fast. That matters here in Pacifica, because foggy days can leave you feeling like nothing ever dries.
My simple routine for even fading
- Moisturize once daily, and do a second light layer on elbows, knees, ankles, and hands.
- Use gentle body wash. Keep it basic.
- Pat dry after showering, then moisturize right away.
- If you start seeing dryness, moisturize more, don’t scrub more.
Membership mindset: The goal isn’t stacking tan on top of tan every day. It’s keeping your skin hydrated so your color fades evenly, then refreshing at the right time.
And yes, I do make my own body butter, and clients bring it up all the time because they notice their skin feels softer and their tan lasts longer when they stay consistent. If you’re not using mine, no problem. Just stay in the “light, gentle, oil-free” lane.
Patchy spot or color feels off? Text me, and we’ll fix it before your next touch-up
One of the best parts of an unlimited membership is that you’re not stuck living with a mistake. People tell me booking is easy, and I also check in after your tan because I want to know how it developed on your skin. If your color feels a little warmer than you wanted, or you notice an area fading faster, I’d rather adjust your next session than have you try to “DIY fix” it at home.
“The last two tans she’s given me I’ve honestly forgotten I had a spray tan on (other than being way darker than I was) because it looked so natural.”
one of our regulars
Here’s what’s usually normal: bronzer rinsing off in the first shower, a little extra fading on hands because they get washed more, and gradual soft fading over 7 to 14 days depending on your skin and routine. Here’s when I want you to reach out: obvious streaks, a patch that keeps getting darker, or anything that doesn’t look even after your first rinse.
Need a quick membership refresh? I work with clients across Pacifica, Daly City, San Bruno, Colma, Brisbane, and Montara, so staying on schedule is usually easy.
